From Cynthia Erivo and Nichole Scherzinger to George Clooney and Jonathan Groff, the stars came out for the 78th annual Tony Awards, held at Radio City Music Hall on June 8. David Ho checks out who won

Maybe Happy Ending won the most awards for the night, with six trophies including Best Musical and Best Lead Actor for Darren Criss.

Cole Escola became the first non-binary performer to win Best Actor in a play for their role as Mary Todd Lincoln, while former Pussycat Dolls lead vocalist Nicole Scherzinger solidifed her status on Broadway with a Best Actress in a musical win.

Wicked star Cynthia Erivo had 10 outfits for her first time hosting the Tony Awards. She also performed a rousing rendition of “Sometimes All You Need Is a Song” for the opening.

There were quite a number of first-time nominees, including Scherzinger for Sunset Boulevard, George Clooney for Good Night, and Good Luck, and Sadie Sink for John Proctor Is a Villain

The Tony Awards is one of the four major awards for the performing arts, along with the Emmy, Grammy, and Oscars. Receiving at least one of each award confers EGOT status, a rare distinction that only 21 entertainers have achieved to date. Unfortunately, there were no new additions to the list this year.
