Van Cleef & Arpels unveils a poetic masterpiece with the “Naissance de l’Amour” at Watches and Wonders 2025

Continuing the journey of the Extraordinary Objects series, first introduced in 2022, this latest creation brings to life Cupid, the universally celebrated deity of love, through intricate gold casting, diamond embellishments, and a feathered cage that moves with precision and elegance.

What elevates this piece beyond the conventional timekeeper is its complex kinetic mechanism, developed in collaboration with the François Junod studios in Switzerland. At the heart of the structure, Cupid rises gracefully on a rose-gold column amidst sculpted clouds, gently flapping his plique-à-jour enamel wings in harmony with a soft bell melody, before returning serenely to his starting point within a rainbow-hued feather cage.

The base of this timepiece is sculpted from iron eye stone and petrified palmwood, materials formed over millions of years. Expertly shaped and polished, they anchor a cylindrical structure encircled by a rotating ring, adorned with painted feathers and pavé-set diamonds, serving as an innovative time-indicating system.

As always, Van Cleef & Arpels marries aesthetic splendour with interdisciplinary mastery, combining haute joaillerie, mechanical artistry, and fine decorative craftsmanship.
