With pieces drawn from 35 previous collections and his own personal wardrobe, Demna reinterprets and reconstructs fashion codes not as a nostalgic glance backward, but as a provocative inquiry into the blurred lines between “luxury” and “true fashion” in today’s shifting cultural context.
One of the collection’s most striking qualities is its signature use of volume and structure, an unmistakable Balenciaga trait, explored through an anthropological lens. It delves into how people dress in their everyday lives and, more importantly, why they wear things the way they do. This layered, analytical approach to fashion has been a hallmark of Demna’s vision since the beginning.
The collaboration with Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek, creators of the influential photography series Exactitudes, underscores Demna’s fascination with identity, uniformity, and visual expression in contemporary society. Their work becomes a central reference in the creation of this collection, elevating it into a tribute to what Demna calls the “Balenciaga Archetypes,” silhouettes, personas, atmospheres, and ideas that have defined his tenure at the House.
Before concluding this chapter with his final couture presentation for the brand, Demna will curate an exhibition titled Balenciaga by Demna.
